Method
Easter Craft Project
Step One – Preparing your terracotta pot
Apply the white paint to the terracotta pot to create a white base coat onto which your will apply the serviette. The white base coat will ensure that the serviette colours remain true and vibrant when applied. Using the foam brush apply 2 coats of white paint on the inside and outside of your terracotta pot. Make sure that the paint dries between. If you feel that you need a third coat apply if necessary. You may want to use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process. Before you begin the next step make sure that the white base coats are properly dry.

Step Two – Cut out serviettes images
By now you would have chosen a serviette with your desired Easter design. Cut out the Easter images you have chosen with a pair of small sharp scissors. Remove the backing layer from your serviette cut outs (serviettes have 2 layers). Using your foam brush apply the Heritage Modge Podge to the area you have chosen to place the cut out image. Press down the image gently. Dry with a hairdryer. Once dry, rub out any creases. Repeat until all the images are in place. Seal with 2 coats of Heritage Modgr Podge and dry with hair dryer.

Step Three – Painting your terracotta pot
Using your paint colours you have chosen for your pot design, paint over the white areas between the cut outs. As you will see from my Easter terracotta pot I have painted a light pastel blue around the top and a pastel yellow on the bottom of the pot which was the background colour on the serviette. I matched the colour from the Resene colour chart and bought a test pot to match.

Step Four – Layering and sanding
Using the foam brush apply 10 coats of Heritage Modge Podge to the pot drying with a hair dryer after every coat. Once you have built up the layers and it has dried properly use your fine 600 grit sand paper to sand pot. To sand the pot make sure you wet the sand paper. When sanding, the surface will become pasty and may turn white. Don't worry the white will disappear when it dries.

Step Five – Finishing
Apply 2 coats of Heritage Hard Varnish to the entire pot. This will seal the pot and give it a glossy finish.

Once Easter is over and the eggs have been eaten, use you could use the pot as a pen and pencil holder on your desk or as a plant on the kitchen window.
